Albania wants to ban TikTok

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama held a press conference to propose banning TikTok from Albania. According to the Albanian leader, the proposal will be discussed among parent communities before making a final decision.

Such a proposal comes after the tragic death of a 14-year-old teenager in a school fight on November 16. The author involved in the conflict posted a photo on Snapchat with a big knife after committing the murder.

Not only didn’t the commenters on TikTok condemn his shameful act, but they praised him for the bravery shown during the fight. It’s not the first time Albanian teenagers cheered violent acts in TikTok. They constantly post feuds that go viral throughout the country. Motivated by quick fame boosted by the TikTok algorithm young Albanian boys and girls share degenerate content on their profiles.

Some go too far and glorify stabbing. One of them is Gazi, an Albanian youngster who is a resident of the United States. Identified by the username @gazii_17 during a TikTok live session he said the following about the fight.

He did very well. He should have stabed him in the head too… He stabed him in his heart, right? Once I return to Albania I will stab someone…

Although TikTok is one of the top social media platforms for promoting heat and violence among Albanian youth, some disagree with Edi Rama’s proposal. Internet influencers in Albania argue that TikTok is an online platform like Instagram and Facebook, and the problem is with parents who don’t control their children.

At the moment, the Albanian government has taken no concrete actions regarding the banning of TikTok.
